“There’s no gainsaying that Isuikwuato is under siege currently. The spate of kidnapping in recent times in and around this once peaceful community bespeaks this unsettling fact. Until recently, the major axis where the kidnappers used to ply their horrendous trade was the route leading into Isuikwuato through Abia State University Uturu. As it is today, coming into Isuikwuato through Nunya and Uzuakoli is no longer safe. They strike at anytime of the day. Certainly, we can’t allow this ugly situation to continue unchecked”.

“I took time to interview one of their victims who regained his freedom after close to one week in captivity. The description of captors and the language they spoke aside from fluent English gave them away as coming from the tribe that has gained notoriety in this matter. They are so smart that they don’t stay in any one location for too long thereby making it difficult for tracing using technical means. A senior member of one security agencies I spoke with at length confirmed this fact. To worsen the already bad situation, the police have withdrawn their services in the aftermath of the #ENDSARS protests which witnessed the killing of some of their men and the burning of their stations and looting of their weapons”.

“In the circumstances, our people seem to be left with no option than to work out their own protection. Our town union leaders must therefore step in to fill the void. They must as a matter of urgency sound the clarion call for our youths, the vigilante groups and hunters to comb our bushes to hunt down these evil doers. Of course, they cannot do that with bare hands. So I call on all our people who are well to do to support them with logistics. In all this, the security agencies should provide them with technical support to make their work meaningful”.
