MOTION:
The Lawmaker representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Hon.Okey Igwe brought a Motion titled:
MOTION ON THE NEED TO ORDER THE CONTRACTOR HANDLING THE RECONSTRUCTION OF EKE ISUOCHI/ ACHARA ROAD PROJECT BACK TO SITE
The Motion Reads:
“Whereas road is a basic and indispensable infrastructure from any Government to its people,
Whereas it is proven that no society can function effectively without good and quality road network,
Whereas it has become expedient to bring to the notice of this Honourable House, the deplorable state of Eke Isuochi/Achara Road which has been abandoned by World Bank/Newmap contractor handling the reconstruction of the said road,
Whereas the earth moving works done by the contractor had dislodged the stability of the soil aggregate of the said road, thereby creating deep gulies both in the middle and sides of the road, resulting to the inaccessibility of the road project,
Whereas the economic importance of Eke Isuochi/Achara Road cannot be over emphasized as it connects the people of Umunneochi with the famous Umuchieze Cattle Market and,
Whereas if not given urgent attention, will further worsen the hardship currently being experienced by the people of Umunneochi on the road,
Mr Speaker and Honourable Colleagues, it is my prayer that this Honourable House do resolve as follows:
(1) That the Project Manager of NEWMAP be invited to ascertain why the road Project was abandoned by the contractor handling it
(2) That the House should mandate the project Manager of NEWMAP to order the contractor back to site
RESOLUTION:
(1) The House resolved that the Project Manager be invited to interface with the Abia State House of Assembly over the matter.
