A former aide to the Governor of Abia State on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Dr. Godwin Chinedu Duru, on Tuesday, December 14, officially joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Speaking to journalists in Umuahia on his reason for joining the political party, Chief Duru said he intends to work with other progressives to build a formidable party which will give ‘birth to a new Abia’ and not to run for any elective position.
He expressed his intention of transferring his years of accumulated knowledge to the young and vibrant Abia youths for the development of the state.
On why he didn’t join the two main opposition parties in Abia state; PDP and APC, Chief Duru said joining the mentioned opposition parties would portray him in the light of identifying with a place where the ‘meal is ready’.
“It’s time for Abians to go back to their roots and join an indigenous party founded by our own people”.
“I decided to join APGA because I do not want to go where the cake is already baked, if I join the APC or PDP, it could be adjudged that I went to were the meal was ready.”
“I want to work. I want to join hands with other progressives to build a party with which we will birth the new Abia”.
