A political firestorm has erupted in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of Abia State following a controversial viral video by former Commissioner and PDP Local Government Chairman, Eze Nwangaga. In the widely circulated video, Nwangaga, who hails from Nkpukpuevula village in Owerriaba/Umunkama Ward 4, appeared visibly irritated over the rapid pace of development under Governor Alex Otti and bizarrely questioned why people were praising the governor for “doing better” than his predecessors.
“What is all this hype about Otti working? Is he going to eat the money?” Nwangaga ranted in the video that has triggered a wave of backlash across party lines.
But leaders in Ugwunagbo would have none of it.
In a strategic meeting held on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the residence of Chief Kingsley Nwaobilor—CEO of DreamSpring Microfinance Institute and a prominent figure in the LGA—the political class across party affiliations unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Governor Otti and denounced Nwangaga’s statements as a disgrace to the current spirit of progressive governance in the state.
“We Are Witnessing Real Development for the First Time” — Chief Nwaobilor
Leading the charge, Chief Kingsley Nwaobilor didn’t mince words in responding to Nwangaga’s outburst.
“Since the inception of Abia State, this is the first time we are seeing such massive development. The roads, the cleanliness, the dignity—we are proud of what Governor Otti is doing,” he said passionately.
Mocking Nwangaga’s comment about “eating money,” Nwaobilor asked rhetorically, “Have you ever seen someone eating money? Money is for development, and Governor Otti is using it right before our eyes.”
He challenged the people of Ugwunagbo not to be misled by leaders who only knew how to share money and leave the people in poverty. “That era is gone. Abia has changed for good,” he declared.
Also speaking at the meeting, Hon. Chiemela Iheanacho, Executive Chairman/Mayor Ugwunagbo LGA, affirmed the unstoppable wave of progress sweeping through Abia and encouraged people to welcome newcomers into the party, many of whom are defecting due to the governor’s track record.
“The good work of Governor Otti is attracting good people. Let’s open our doors and build a better Ugwunagbo together,” he urged.
Comrade Nosike Ihesiaba, former Mayor of Ugwunagbo LGA, further emphasized the transformation taking place under the Otti administration.
“Today, going to Port Harcourt is easy. Aba is accessible. Ugwunagbo is no longer a forgotten place,” he said. “Money is not meant for eating—it is for working, and that is what our governor is doing.”
He concluded with a passionate reaffirmation of the LGA’s total support for the governor: “We are 100% behind Governor Otti. No distractions. No going back.”
