The Abia State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents, as security concerns continue to dominate discussions in the state.
This assurance was given by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Navy Commodore MacDonald Ubah (Rtd), during a press briefing alongside the Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Isa, following the monthly State Security Council meeting held on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
Ubah described the security meeting as part of Governor Alex Otti’s strategic and proactive approach to tackling security threats in the state. According to him, the administration has taken deliberate steps to fortify security measures, ensuring that Abia remains a safe haven for residents and businesses.
“This is a monthly security council meeting convened by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Abia State. It is part of ongoing efforts to sustain and enhance security strategies that have significantly improved safety across the state,” Ubah stated.
Addressing concerns over the recent murder of a businessman from Arochukwu while returning to the state, Ubah assured that security agencies are actively investigating the case and will leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“All hands are on deck to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing. Investigations are already ongoing, and once we have concrete results, we will make them public,” he affirmed.
On his part, CP Mohammed Isa noted that Abia State has remained relatively peaceful, thanks to coordinated efforts between the police and other security agencies. He stated that one of the key outcomes of past security meetings was the implementation of special operations across Aba, Umuahia, and other local government areas, particularly during the last festive season.
“As you witnessed, the special security operations we executed in Aba, Umuahia, and across local government areas ensured a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration. The success of these measures reinforces our commitment to securing Abia State,” CP Isa stated.
The Commissioner of Police further assured that the Abia State Police Command remains committed to working in collaboration with other security agencies to prevent crime and maintain law and order.
CP Isa urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives by providing timely and useful information that could aid in crime prevention.
“Security is a collective responsibility. We call on all residents to stay alert, report suspicious activities, and support security agencies as we continue to make Abia a safer place for all,” he added.
The Governor Alex Otti-led administration has continuously prioritized security as a key component of its governance agenda, ensuring that investments and businesses thrive in a secure environment.
