As Abia State prepares for its local government elections, ABSIEC Chairman Prof. George N. Chima led a peace accord signing to ensure a peaceful process. The agreement, supported by IPAC Chairman Hon. Uluocha Chimex, emphasizes commitment to free and fair elections, with security forces on hand.

In a crucial step toward a peaceful and credible local government election, the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) held a stakeholders’ and peace accord meeting at its Umuahia headquarters. Chaired by Prof. George N. Chima, the meeting highlighted ABSIEC’s commitment to a transparent electoral process and encouraged compliance with election protocols.

Prof. Chima assured stakeholders of thorough training for electoral workers, emphasizing Abia State Independent Electoral Commission’s readiness for a fair and peaceful election. “This meeting underscores our commitment to a credible election,” Chima stated, underscoring the importance of cooperation among all political actors to reflect Abia’s values as “God’s Own State.”

Representing the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), State Chairman Hon. Uluocha Chimex expressed support for ABSIEC’s efforts, while urging political parties to adhere to the rules for a transparent process. Acknowledging that no electoral system is without fault, Uluocha encouraged ABSIEC to learn from potential mistakes to refine future elections.

This peace pledge aims to foster a commitment to a violence-free election day, reinforcing ABSIEC’s mission for a secure and democratic process for Abia’s people.

The election is billed to hold on the 2nd of November 2024.
