In a bold demonstration of governance anchored on tangible results, the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, has launched housing, water and sanitation projects in Ohafia Local Government Area to mark the birthday of Governor Alex Otti, OFR.
The highlight of the ceremony was the official handover of a fully furnished four-bedroom bungalow to Mr. Chijioke Samuel of Okagwe community. In addition, an ultra-modern solar-powered borehole and an 11-unit toilet facility were commissioned at the Amaoba Section of Amaekpu community.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Governor Emetu explained that February has become a month dedicated to impactful public service in honour of Governor Otti’s birthday. According to him, the choice to execute developmental projects rather than offer symbolic gifts reflects a leadership philosophy rooted in measurable impact.
“These initiatives restore dignity, strengthen families and ensure that governance reaches the grassroots,” Emetu stated.
The newly completed and furnished bungalow marks the third home delivered by the Deputy Governor since 2024 as part of an annual birthday tradition. Beneficiaries and community members described the gesture as life-changing and a clear sign that leadership in Abia is now defined by visible results.
Observers note that the intervention goes beyond shelter — it signals inclusion, compassion and direct engagement with ordinary citizens.
Beyond housing, the commissioning of a solar-powered borehole and modern toilet facility underscores the administration’s drive to eradicate open defecation and improve public health outcomes.
Deputy Governor Emetu stressed that access to clean water and hygienic sanitation facilities is fundamental to community wellbeing and environmental sustainability. He urged residents to protect and responsibly utilize the projects for long-term benefit.
The ceremony attracted prominent dignitaries including Hon. Kalu Mba Nwoke, Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities Mr. Ikechukwu Monday, and Chief David Ogba Onuoha, among others. They praised the Deputy Governor’s consistency in delivering tangible dividends of democracy and reaffirmed their support for Governor Otti’s reform-driven administration.
Community leaders, women and youth representatives also expressed gratitude, pledging to safeguard the facilities for collective use.
Delivered under the platform of Make Ohafia Great Again (MOGA), the projects reinforce what many now describe as a governance model where policy translates into practical outcomes.
As Abia continues to chart a reform-focused path, the latest interventions in Ohafia stand as a testament to leadership defined not by rhetoric, but by results.
