A university Don and the 2019 APGA Deputy Governorship candidate, Dr. Mrs. Uche Eme Uche has commiserated with the Arunsi family of Ebem Ohafia, in Ohafia LGA of Abia state over the death of their son, Late Friday Ifeanyi Arunsi who was gruesomely murdered recently by a trigger-happy police man.
Dr. Uche who is presently outside the state spoke with the uncle of the deceased, Mr.K.U K. Ukpai on phone, while she sent a delegation led by the Ohafia LGA Chairman of APGA Hon. Kalu Mbah (Etiokwe) to physically represent her, expressed sadness that the life of such a promising boy could be cut short in the most lawless manner, and urged the family to be strong and look up to God in this trying moment, while she prayed for peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased.
Dr. Uche who is also an indigene of Ohafia community used the opportunity to appeal to youths to exercise restraint, especially now that the police authorities have arrested the assailant and promised to decisively punish him according to the law.
She also called on the government to do everything within its powers to ensure that peace returns fully to the community and prevent security agents from taking advantage of the violence that greeted the murder to embark on any form of illegal arrest and molestation of youths to avoid complete breakdown of law and order.
Finally, she cautioned security agents against exhibiting hostility and violence when dealing with unarmed civilians, insisting that such behaviour runs contrary to rules of engagement all over the world, and has the capacity to create unnecessary suspicion and distrust between security agents and the citizens they are supposed to protect.
