Chief Charles Obioha Ogbonnaya, (Evulogu Ibeku), has revealed what he told the Executive governor of Abia state, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, when the governor informed him that he intends to handover power to the Ngwa speaking section of Abia Central (Umunneato).
Ogbonnaya revealed this in a press briefing with journalists in Umuahia on Monday, April 4 in his residence.
According to him, he advised governor Ikpeazu against handing over the governorship position come 2023 to the people of Umunneato, rather, power should go to Abia North senatorial district as the Charter of Equity demands.
“when the governor invited me to his house to tell me that he wants to have the governorship remain in Umunneato which is Osisioma, Isialangwa North and Isialangwa South, I told him no. it is wrong for you to do that. It is the turn of Abia North. All you need to do is to look for somebody in Abia north to become governor. After 8 years, it will return to Abia central. Now my brothers in Abia central of Ngwa extraction will now contest with Umuahia axis to say when it came first to Abia central, you took first, now allow us; we will concede”
he noted that the problem governor Ikpeazu has is that he appointed people who he advises instead of them advising the governor.
“if you are in a position of authority, appoint advisers that will advise you and not advisers `that you will advise. And that is exactly what is going on with my friend the governor.”
