Aba Commercial Smart City is emerging as a game-changing investment hub in Abia State. Discover why Gov. Alex Otti says Abia is ready for business and what investors are seeing.

Abia State is positioning itself as Nigeria’s next major investment destination following the unveiling of ambitious plans for the Aba Commercial Smart City (ACSC), a 140-hectare, public-private partnership project strategically located in Osisioma, Aba.

The project took a decisive step forward at the Government House, Umuahia, where Governor Alex Chioma Otti, through his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, welcomed promoters of the Aba Commercial Smart City for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Market Leaders/Traders and other investors.

Governor Otti declared that Abia State is open, prepared, and fully receptive to investors, stressing that the administration has deliberately created the enabling environment required for businesses to thrive.

According to the Governor, the Aba Commercial Smart City is designed to reposition Aba as a modern industrial and commercial hub, capable of driving sustainable economic growth, urban renewal, and large-scale job creation.

He explained that the smart city will feature a mixed-use, commercially driven ecosystem that integrates manufacturing, trade, logistics, technology, healthcare, hospitality, and housing—aligning perfectly with the administration’s long-term economic vision for Aba.

Governor Otti recalled that upon assuming office in May 2023, his administration declared a state of emergency in critical sectors, emphasizing that strategic reforms were necessary to unlock Abia’s economic potential.

He pointed to Aba’s recent achievement of over 90 days of uninterrupted power supply as proof that deliberate governance reforms are yielding results and restoring investor confidence.

“Investors are not emotional; they respond to structure, stability, and opportunity,” the Governor noted, adding that once the right environment is created, capital naturally follows.

Speaking on behalf of the Group Managing Director of Aba Commercial Smart City, Professor Chinedu Nebo, the President of ACSC, Ambassador Osita Offor, described the project as the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa.

He said the Smart City represents a bold vision to reconnect Aba to global trade corridors while restoring its historic identity as Africa’s commercial heartbeat.

According to Offor, the project will be powered by integrated energy systems, supported by a high-speed digital backbone, and segmented into specialized districts tailored for commerce, manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, and technology.

Former Inspector-General of Police and Group Vice Chairman of ACSC, Dr. Mike Okiro, commended Governor Otti for what he described as a deliberate effort to restore Aba’s lost industrial glory, noting that investor interest in the project is already gaining momentum.

Delivering a technical presentation, Mr. David Okoro, Manager of Technical Services at ACSC, disclosed that the Smart City is built on four core innovation pillars: automated manufacturing and commerce, medical and hospitality services, smart housing and logistics efficiency, and smart energy systems.

He explained that the project’s e-commerce platform integrated with bonded terminals will eliminate long-standing importation challenges by enabling seamless cross-border transactions with doorstep delivery.

Mr. Okoro revealed that the Aba Commercial Smart City is projected to create 25,000 direct jobs and over 100,000 indirect jobs, while significantly boosting Abia State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

He described the project as a permanent, technology-driven relocation solution that prioritizes ease of business, healthy living, and long-term sustainability.

Earlier, the Governor’s representative led the ACSC delegation on a tour of ongoing projects within the Government House, underscoring the administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal and investor assurance.
