Smart Adeyemi’s Defamatory Grunt, an Exhibition of Parliamentary Rascality, Irresponsibility – Abia PDP

The Abia State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has knocked Senator Smart Adeyemi of Kogi West over his remarks on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday against the Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, which have been condemned by a large section of the public.

In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the State Chapter of the Party, Chief Fabian Nwankwo, the Party described Adeyemi’s diatribe as “irrational, condemnable, atrocious and defamatory” stating that “out of mere sentiment and irascibility, Smart Adeyemi could defecate in the open”.

The statement in full reads:

“The attention of the Abia State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt Hon Allwell Asiforo Okere, PhD, and that of the State Working Committee members has been drawn to some reckless, malicious, defamatory and unparliamentary comments made by Senator Smart Adeyemi, the Senator representing Kogi West at the National Assembly against our amiable and result oriented governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, and the Government of Abia State, and wish to condemn in its entirety the unguarded utterances of the obviously mentally disturbed Senator.

“To underscore the seriousness with which we take exception to such unwarranted verbal assault, we wish to State as follows:

“That inasmuch as we would not want to be dragged into any media war of fury with Smart Adeyemi, we wish to unequivocally state that Adeyemi attacked the wrong horse in his desperate attempts to satisfy and soothe the nerves of some vested interests in and outside Kogi State and apparently prove to them that he is a willing horse ready to do dirty jobs.

“That a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will descend so low to have poured invectives and cast aspersions on a man that had neither maligned him, nor disrespected him at any time, shows the level and quality of the person he is and the kind of representation he offers the people of Kogi West who look onto him as their opinion leader.

“That it is an incontrovertible fact that Smart Adeyemi reacted to a social media post where the Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello was criticized over his comment on Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s contribution in the floor of the Red Chambers, condemning the increase of insecurity in the nation presided over by the All Progressives Congress (APC). Surprisingly, Adeyemi did not bother to find out whether Abaribe actually discounted the Kogi State governor or not, but went ahead to rant invectives and uncomplimentary remarks on our urbane, polished, result-oriented, highly focused and performing governor who is not part of the Senate fray.

“Assuming, but not conceding to the allegation, that Abaribe made any provocative remark against the Kogi State governor, why drag our highly revered Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who is not a Senator but a personality in faraway Abia, who is busy performing his onerous constitutional responsibilities, into the melee? That simply shows how barren Smart Adeyemi is in thought.

“How would the people of Kogi West benefit from a politician like Smart Adeyemi who is unstable in reasoning and blighted in character; a politician who often goes off the track to chase imagined enemies even without any provocation?

“That Smart Adeyemi could come to the hallowed Chambers of the Senate to speak of an innuendo by a fellow Senator and drag in a highly respected personality as the Governor of Abia State who was not involved in the discourse in any way smacks of gross irresponsibility on his part. It is regrettable that out of mere sentiment and irascibility, Smart Adeyemi could so defecate in the open.

“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abia State Chapter, seriously and totally views this irrational, condemnable, atrocious and defamatory grunt by Smart Adeyemi with anger and asks him to withdraw it within seven days of the publication of this write up.

“We want to place it on good record that our dear governor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu neither drinks alcoholic beverages nor engages in any rascality as Adeyemi deceitfully, wickedly and delusively rumbled.

“We salute the statesmanship of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan who rose to the occasion by cautioning this rascal brat against his spurious, uncouth and unwarranted attack on our able governor.

“We wish to warn that the immunity enjoyed by Distinguished Senators which shields them from being sued by members of the public for their words in the Parliament should not be used as an excuse to malign innocent members of the public particularly hardworking public officers who have excellently acquitted themselves in their leadership responsibilities.

“Meanwhile, the state chapter of the PDP hereby invites Sen. Smart Adeyomi to come to Abia and physically witness the massive infrastructural development of the state by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, perhaps he will learn one or two lessons in quality leadership”.
