Not fewer than ten people have been reported dead in the Tuesday evening attack on Maiduguri metropolis by Boko Haram insurgents.

Gov. Babagana Zulum, who visited the hospitals where the victims were admitted, confirmed the casualty to have stood at 10 fatalities and 60 injured.

“We have been informed that about 10 persons were killed and 60 were injured. This is a new form of attack, totally different from the usual suicide bombing.

” It is worrisome and there is an urgent need to strategise to forestall further occurrence,” Zulum said.

The Governor, who was visibly saddened by the attack, is also worried about the new trend, which he described as completely strange from the usual attacks carried out by the Boko Haram insurgents on Maiduguri over the years.

The Nation gathered the insurgents instead of the usual suicide bombing with IEDs, decided to lunch rocket propelled launchers with grenade into the city resulting in the deaths.

A source informed that majority of those killed were youths playing football on the streets in Gwange community of Maiduguri.

The Nation had reported the insurgents on Tuesday evening tried to infiltrate Maiduguri through University of Maiduguri but were believed to have been repelled by security forces.
