Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confiscated two bullion vans travelling with a huge sum of money which reportedly belonged to commercial banks in the state.
AFNews understands that the vans were seized by the security operatives for breaching protocols which include having a compulsory escort van with security personnel from behind and in the front of the travelling money vehicle.
It was reported that the vans were intercepted by operatives attached to the Area J Command, Ajah.
AFNews understands that the Lagos Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu had counselled officials of banks and cash-in-transit (CIT) to “always observe standing operating procedure to prevent security breaches, the vans, linked to bankers’ warehouse, proceeded without security to many large sums of money.”
“At the time of arrest, the bullion vans were without escort vehicle which has been their usual practice. One was found in Ajah and another in Lekki,” a source told newsmen.
It could be recalled that two bullion vans were spotted entering the Bourdillon residence of Bola Tinubu, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party a few hours to the 2019 Presidential election.
In a subsequent report, the former governor of Lagos State said the bullion vans were not carrying ballot papers but money, which belongs to him, and not for any government agency.
