The South East Governors forum said they are ready for a post COVID- 19 era, this was disclose by the chariman of the south east governors forum HE Engr David Umahi in a communique made available to AFNEWS.
According to Engr David Umahi, the decision was taken during the south East Governors forum teleconference meeting on 14th may 2020
According to the communique, Engr David Umahi while speaking unbehalf of the forum Commended the coalition against COVID- 19 led by Alhaji Akiko Dangote and the central bank Governor Dr Godwin Emefiele for furnishings isolation centers in Enugu and imo, also for all thier financial commitment in distributing food items to states and appreciate them for that
The forum also are not happy with news of violation of Interstate lockdown rules , therefore the forum expect and ask all task force committee to strengthen it activities to avoid and curtail spread of Corona virus in South East.
In his words ” We will continue to strengthen and Enforce the no mask no movement,Social distancing, regular hand washing and sanitary guildlines” among others
But they express Concern over the continues Intrusion of Almajiries into the south east through questionable means , “it is a wise and commendable decisions to send amajiries to thier state , but our people should stay where ever they are while and not consider returning home to protect thier loved ones, also community leaders should strengthen internal security to reduce and stop interstate movement ”
Also as part of measure to prepare for the post COVID-19 era , the South East Governors agree to encourage the Youth to get involved into agriculture since it has the potency to drive the economy.
Also measure are being put in place to Kick-off a massive testing in South East , the target is to test 5% of the population in the next two months , already imo have two testing center, while the one in Enugu is almost complete while Anambra and Abia is on the way too
Everyone should get set and prepare to face for a post Covid 19 era , but our emphasis is on education, health, agriculture,SMSs among others But nothwithstanding, we will Continue with provission of parliatives to our people but our people should continue to keep precautionary measure to be protected
The South East Governors Forum took time to Appreciate PMB for the ongoing rehabilitation program in Akanu Ibiam international airport , the aviation minister and the committee headed by Engr Chris Okoye and the Enugu state governor Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was commended too and they are optimistic that the airport will open soon
Finally the Forum congratulated the new Chief of staff Amb Ibrahim Agboola Gambari and wished him well in his new office.
