Moi became my teacher on Sudan than anybody else, says OBJ Moi educated me more on Sudan than anybody else, as Statesmen all over the African continent continues to honour the memory of Arap Moi – The former Kenyan president died at the age of 95 on Tuesday, February 4 – Former Nigerian leader, Olusegun Obasanjo, has joined the numerous statesmen paying homage to Moi Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has disclosed that the late former President of Kenya, Arap Moi, educated him more than anyone else on Sudan.

Obasanjo acknowledged the contributions of the late Africanist towards the search for international peace, especially in Africa, notably his laudable efforts at engendering the successful outcome of the peace negotiations, which he brokered between the government of Sudan and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army in 2002.

He further affirmed that the successful execution of the Machakos Agreement by the two major parties to the Sudanese conflict represented a substantial step in the direction of a just and durable resolution of the long-drawn crisis in Sudan.

Obasanjo, who made this disclosure in a letter of condolence written to President Uhuru Kenyatta, on the death of the African statesman, on Thursday, February 7 said that President Moi “lived a fulfilled life, having served his country energetically in various capacities before he finally became the second President of Kenya from 1978 to 2002.” Moi became my teacher on Sudan than anybody else, says OBJ“A man of principle and commitment, he embodied the virtues of labour. He was accommodating but firm and decisive,” he added. In the condolence letter, copy of which was made available to journalists by his spokesman, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo said:

“I join the government and the people of Kenya as well as millions of others around the world in mourning a man, who, in his very eventful political life, did much to shape the political tapestry of not only Kenya, but also that of Africa and, by extension, the world at large.” Moi, the longest-serving Kenyan president who ruled for 24 years, died at the age of 95. He was pronounced dead on the early morning of Tuesday, February 4, by medics at The Nairobi Hospital where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, February 4, described Moi as a frontline nationalist, adding that he gave his best for the development of his country. Similarly, former Nigerian leader, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, said the late Kenyan president will be remembered for his love and service to his nation.
