Based on the information we gathered from our source, Abia State Teachers have not called off their indefinite strike.

It was revealed to us that the state government offered to pay 3 months’ salary out of the 10 months owed the workers and the union leaders have not agreed to that.

Abia Facts News got access to the message sent to Teachers by their union leaders.

READ:

Fellow Comrades Good morning .. Pls I wish to inform all of us that we should disregard the announcement made over the radio by the state NLC Chairman that NUT has called off the indefinite Strike we embanked yesterday. We have gone digital. The Government only promised to pay us 3Months ..  We see that as an insult. That’s never a pass mark (3/10)   .. Ha kota sign.. Always give our teachers the correct information.  We started the strike and we shall call it off when we OK their response. Thanks and remain resolute to our struggle.  Aluta Continua.??????

The reasons behind the strike is as follows;

  1. Secondary School Teachers were last paid in July 2018. They are owed for 10 months, that is from August 2018 to May 2019.
  2. Removal of Teachers Salary Structure (TSS), which means teachers are not paid according to the structure obtainable in other states.
  3. Harmonization of both Primary and Secondary school teachers.
  4. Lack of implementation of Primary School teachers promotion for the last 4 years.
  5. Years without Leave allowance
  6. Arrears for one year N18,000 Minimum wage.
