Despite public outcry against the abuse of power by leaders held in high esteem by the led, the issue of total abuse of power seems to be on the increase.
In a similar twist but unfortunate circumstance, the traditional ruler of Arommiriukwu autonomous community in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government, His Royal Highness Eze Ikechukwu Nelson Okezie is alleged to have taken powers beyond the boundaries apportioned by engaging in activities considered unbecoming of a traditional ruler held in esteem by the traditions of the land.
Eze Okezie who many are allegedly attesting to his high handedness, is being accused by a woman – an indigene – of the community to have beaten her up and inflicted several injuries on her.
While narrating the story to our reporter, a member of the community who pleaded anonymity said the case was about who would harvest palm nuts from a land in tussle. The king who waded into the affair accused the assaulted woman of stealing palm fruits from the land. In response to the accusation, the woman who tried to defend herself was allegedly met with beatings from the traditional ruler.
According to reports, the traditional ruler has allegedly been severally accused of intimidation of subjects and encourage negative vices within his domain.
As at the time of filing this report, the traditional ruler was contacted by our reporter, he failed to respond to questions on the issue and declined giving attention to our reporter, insisting that he wasn’t answerable to any body due to his position.
Information reaching AFN also has it that the family of the woman allegedly assaulted by the Monarch has been warn against interacting with the media. To this end, when AFN contacted the son of the assaulted woman, he kept demanding the story be dropped because he does want trouble.
