Olawepo-Hashim Resigns From PDP, Vows To Resist One Party State –

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has formally resigned from the party, citing persistent internal crises and deepening factionalisation.

In a letter dated April 4, 2026, addressed to his ward chairman in Abuja, Olawepo-Hashim said his resignation takes immediate effect, noting that efforts to reconcile warring factions within the party had failed.

He explained that the PDP had been embroiled in prolonged divisions for over a year, resulting in the emergence of two dominant factions and weakening its position as a credible opposition platform.

According to him, the crisis appeared partly orchestrated to undermine the party’s ability to field credible candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I cannot, in good conscience, be complicit in actions that undermine democratic values,” he stated, adding that remaining in the party would contradict his principles and commitment to Nigerians.

Olawepo-Hashim also expressed concern over the country’s current challenges, including insecurity, economic hardship, and rising poverty, arguing that continued participation in the party would amount to endorsing outcomes he fundamentally disagrees with.

He described the situation within the PDP as disheartening, noting that a party founded by committed democrats had been weakened by internal divisions and self-interest.

Announcing his next steps, he said he would work with like-minded leaders and citizens to prevent the emergence of a one-party state and promote a new political order focused on security, justice, and economic prosperity.

He also thanked party members and stakeholders at the ward level for their support and cooperation during his time in the PDP.
