Abia State has been thrown into mourning following the passing of Elder Chief Barrister Ejie Eke Ukaegbu, as prominent stakeholders continue to pay glowing tributes to the late elder statesman.

Among those who have expressed deep sorrow is Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, who described the deceased as an extraordinary leader, a father figure, and a custodian of Igbere’s history and identity.

In a condolence message, Anyaso extended his sympathies to the family of the late elder, the people of Igbere, and the entire Abia State, noting that the passing of Elder Chief Ukaegbu marks the end of an era.

He described the deceased as a man whose life embodied honour, courage, and service, stressing that his contributions to society would remain indelible.

Elder Chief Ukaegbu was widely respected for his pioneering role in Nigeria’s political history, having emerged as one of the first parliamentarians to win an election as an independent candidate in the old Eastern Nigeria region.

According to Anyaso, this rare achievement reflected the deep trust the people had in his leadership and the strength of his character.

Beyond politics, the late elder statesman played a key role in preserving the cultural identity of Igbere. He was credited with renaming Anniversary Igbere to Ezumezu Igbere, a name that continues to define the community’s heritage.

Describing him as the “father of Igbere history,” Anyaso noted that the late elder was instrumental in shaping the values, unity, and progress of the community.

He highlighted Ukaegbu’s role in strengthening the Igbere Welfare Union, where he contributed significantly to fostering unity, development, and communal responsibility.

The late elder’s influence, he added, extended beyond leadership into mentorship, as he inspired generations of professionals and entrepreneurs from Igbere who have excelled both in Nigeria and globally.

Anyaso described the late Ukaegbu as a personal source of inspiration, noting that his life of discipline, integrity, and service served as a guiding light for many.

He emphasized that while his passing is a painful loss, it is also an opportunity to celebrate a life well lived—one dedicated to service, purpose, and community advancement.

He prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family and urged the people of Igbere to uphold the values and vision left behind by the late elder statesman.

“Abia has lost a rare gem, but his legacy will continue to speak for generations,” Anyaso stated.

Elder Chief Barrister Ejie Eke Ukaegbu is remembered as a towering figure whose contributions to community development, culture, and leadership will not be forgotten.
