President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged the growing burden of rising fuel prices on Nigerians and has begun moves aimed at cushioning the impact on citizens, particularly in transportation and cost of living.
This disclosure was made by Umar Namadi during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in Dutse, where he addressed residents after receiving the Emir of Dutse and other traditional leaders during the Hawan Bariki Durbar.
According to the governor, the President is concerned about the hardship caused by the recent fuel price increase and has already initiated measures to reduce the burden on Nigerians.
Governor Namadi explained that the Federal Government is not unaware of the hardship Nigerians are currently facing as a result of the rising cost of petrol.
He stated that President Tinubu is seriously disturbed by the situation and has directed that steps be taken to cushion the effect, especially in the area of transportation which has been heavily affected by the increase in fuel prices.
According to him, the President has already begun working on measures aimed at reducing transportation costs across the country as part of efforts to ease the economic pressure on citizens.
The governor further explained that the recent increase in petroleum prices is linked to ongoing developments in the Middle East, which have affected global oil prices and supply chains.
He noted that the situation has placed additional pressure on Nigerians, especially in transportation, food prices, and general cost of living.
Economic analysts say fuel price increases usually have a ripple effect across the economy, affecting transportation, food distribution, production costs, and prices of goods and services.
Governor Namadi also revealed that part of the Federal Government’s intervention plans would involve introducing alternative measures aimed at bringing down transportation costs across the country.
He added that the Jigawa State Government would also complement the Federal Government’s efforts by introducing policies and support programmes to cushion the economic pressure on residents of the state.
He assured citizens that although the situation is currently challenging, ongoing interventions by both the Federal and State Governments are expected to provide relief and stabilize living conditions.
The development comes amid growing public concern over the rising cost of fuel and its effect on transportation fares, food prices, and other essential services across Nigeria.
Many Nigerians have expressed concerns that continuous increases in fuel prices are making life more difficult for ordinary citizens and businesses.
Observers say the coming months will be critical as Nigerians expect government interventions that will directly reduce transportation costs and ease the cost of living.
