Kano Police have uncovered a ₦75m fake alert used to acquire a luxury Mercedes Benz GLE. HOW the suspects were arrested will interest you. Read full details.

… Inside the Operation That Exposed a Sophisticated Vehicle Fraud Network

The Kano State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against financial crimes following the arrest of suspects allegedly involved in purchasing a luxury Mercedes Benz GLE with a fake bank alert valued at ₦75 million.

According to the police, the suspects—identified as Tijjani, Auwal and Nura—were arrested on January 8, 2025, at Kabuga Quarters in Kano after intelligence-led operations linked them to a fraudulent vehicle transaction that originated in Abuja.

The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed in an official statement that the suspects allegedly connived with another individual, identified as Yahaya, who is currently on the run, to defraud a vehicle dealer in Gwarinpa, Abuja. Investigations revealed that the luxury vehicle was released after a fake payment alert was sent to the seller, creating the false impression that the ₦75 million purchase price had been credited.

Police operatives moved swiftly after tracking the vehicle to Kano, where it was recovered intact. The Mercedes Benz GLE has since been handed over to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command to aid ongoing investigations and facilitate further legal action.

Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised their professionalism, dedication and commitment to combating economic and financial crimes. He reiterated the Command’s resolve to pursue all individuals connected to the fraud, including the fleeing suspect.

The police authorities also urged members of the public to remain vigilant, especially during high-value transactions, and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency to prevent similar incidents.
