… Atulomah calls on Governor Otti to retract alleged threats, respect Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and focus on transparency in governance

A concerned citizen of Abia State, Enyinnaya Duke Ako Atulomah, has called on Governor Alex Chioma Otti to uphold the principles of humility, respect, and transparency in governance following comments made during the governor’s October 16, 2025 media chat.

In a statement issued on Friday, Atulomah expressed deep concern over what he described as “unbecoming statements” attributed to the governor, particularly the remark suggesting that “anyone planning to write election results should first write their will.”

According to him, such comments could be interpreted as threats to citizens and political stakeholders, warning that leadership in a democratic system should be characterized by engagement and mutual respect, not intimidation.

Atulomah also condemned what he termed the governor’s disrespectful remarks toward the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, noting that the lawmaker’s call for accountability was within his rights as both an elected representative and a citizen of the state.

He stressed that constructive criticism and public inquiry are essential ingredients of democracy, urging Governor Otti to see such engagements as opportunities to strengthen governance rather than occasions for verbal attacks.

The statement further accused the governor of misrepresenting facts about federal allocations and dismissing legitimate concerns as “political fear,” describing such actions as counterproductive and capable of eroding public trust.

Atulomah, therefore, called on the governor to:

  • Retract and apologize for any threatening statements made during the media chat.

  • Show respect to Rt. Hon. Ben Kalu and other citizens seeking accountability.

  • Provide factual explanations regarding issues raised about state allocations and finances.

  • Focus on constructive leadership and avoid unnecessary confrontations.

He concluded that good governance thrives on accountability and mutual respect, urging Governor Otti to demonstrate leadership marked by humility, decorum, and a genuine commitment to dialogue with citizens.

“The people of Abia State deserve governance that prioritizes their welfare, respects their rights, and welcomes scrutiny as a means of improving democracy,” Atulomah stated.
