In a bold move to safeguard lives, properties, and businesses across Abia, the Abia State Orientation Agency (ABSOA) on Tuesday, 16th September 2025, flagged off a massive public safety campaign advocating the compulsory use of fire extinguishers.
The campaign, which held in partnership with Future Concerns Safety Center and the Nigerian Fire Service, stormed the major streets of Umuahia, moving from Aba Road through Isi Gate and up to Tower Junction. The awareness exercise featured real-life demonstrations where trained experts ignited controlled fire outbreaks and showed residents, traders, and business operators how to effectively deploy fire extinguishers to put out flames within seconds.
Addressing the public during the campaign, the Director General of the Abia State Orientation Agency stressed that the initiative was born out of the urgent need to protect Abians, their businesses, and properties from avoidable fire disasters. He emphasized that all markets, institutions, schools, offices, and business premises must install certified fire extinguishers as part of safety compliance.
“Our mission is simple — to save lives and protect the investments of our people. Fire does not give notice before it strikes, but with fire extinguishers within reach, disaster can be controlled and damages minimized. This campaign is not just an awareness drive but a directive that every Abian must take seriously,” the DG declared.
Experts at the event explained that fire extinguishers remain the first line of defense in fire emergencies, helping to stop flames before they spread uncontrollably. The benefits include:
Saving lives in sudden fire outbreaks.
Protecting businesses from total loss.
Ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Reducing response time before the arrival of firefighters.
Safeguarding public spaces such as markets and schools.
To guarantee authenticity, ABSOA recommended that residents and businesses only patronize certified vendors such as:
Mastabest Global Ventures – 61/63 Uwalaka Street, Umuahia.
Darkas International Ltd – 17 St. Michaels Road, Aba.
Aniorji United Vendors Nig. Ltd – 28 Wigwe Street, off 160 Faulks Road, Aba.
The DG assured that the Abia State Government, through continuous awareness and strict enforcement, will ensure that no institution, market, or business is left vulnerable.
With this campaign, the State has taken another proactive step towards creating a safer Abia where lives and investments are secured.
