Paris Saint-Germain’s new man Lucas Chevalier made a huge impression on his first official outing with the club and was the French side’s hero during penalties as they came back from two goals down to defeat Tottenham and win the UEFA Super Cup.

Tottenham looked to be on course for a second European trophy in 2025 after taking a 2-0 lead against PSG in the UEFA Super Cup, but a spirited fightback from the Champions League holders dashed Spurs’ hopes and dreams.

How it happened

The UEFA Super Cup began slowly, with PSG dominating possession but failing to create meaningful chances, despite being heavy favourites after a dominant Ligue 1 season and Champions League triumph.

Tottenham struck first, with Micky van de Ven scoring from a rebound after Lucas Chevalier saved Rodrigo Bentancur’s effort. Spurs nearly doubled their lead before halftime, but Mohammed Kudus’ strike hit the post.

Cristian Romero extended their advantage early in the second half, heading in Pedro Porro’s free-kick. PSG pushed back, with Bradley Barcola having a goal ruled out for offside and Ousmane Dembélé missing another key chance.

Kang-in Lee’s superb long-range effort in the 85th minute reignited hope, and Gonçalo Ramos equalised deep into stoppage time with a close-range header.

In the penalty shootout, Spurs initially led by two after Vitinha missed, but PSG mounted another comeback.

Nuno Mendes sealed the victory after Chevalier denied Van de Ven and Mathys Tel missed, blazing his penalty wide, ensuring the French champions lifted yet another European trophy after an intense, see-saw battle.
