Despite Lookman‘s clear desire to make the move to the San Siro, the two clubs remain at an impasse.
Atalanta, known for their shrewd transfer dealings, have flatly rejected Inter’s initial €40 million offer, primarily because it was structured as a loan with an obligation to buy.
The Bergamo-based club has no intention of entertaining a loan formula and is pushing for an immediate, outright sale.
Atalanta’s valuation for the 27-year-old remains firm at €50 million. This stance puts the ball squarely in Inter Milan’s court, leaving their shrewd transfer strategists, Giuseppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio, with the task of crafting a revised bid that meets Atalanta’s demands.
Inter’s preference for a loan with an obligation to buy is a common tactic in Serie A, often used to spread out payments or manage Financial Fair Play regulations.
However, Atalanta’s firm “outright sale only” policy for Lookman underscores their strong negotiating position, especially given his impressive performances and crucial contributions.
Lookman, who has become a key player for Atalanta since his arrival, is a key asset, and La Dea are clearly determined to maximise his sale value.
The coming days will reveal whether Marotta and Ausilio can find a formula to unlock this complex transfer and bring one of Nigeria’s brightest talents to the Nerazzurri.
