Report: Man Utd set to annoy Arsenal with move for Gunners target

Man United are reportedly considering a move for a prolific Arsenal target striker as part of their summer recruitment strategy.

Ollie Watkins has reportedly been added to Manchester United ’s list of potential centre-forward recruits, should Rasmus Hojlund depart the club, The Athletic reports.

Initial contact has reportedly been made with Aston Villa via intermediaries to explore this prospect, as United evaluate several striker options.

Hojlund’s future at Old Trafford remains uncertain, despite his public commitment to stay, with other clubs reportedly in contact regarding his exit.

Experienced option sought by Amorim

Watkins boasts an impressive record of 75 goals in 184 Premier League games for Villa, reaching double figures in his last five seasons.

Last campaign, he registered 24 goals and assists, a tally that places him among the league’s top strikers, and the Englishman is said to be seen by some at United as a reliable source of goals.

The report suggests that Villa reportedly value Watkins at £60 million, a fee that would significantly aid their Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules compliance.

However, at 29, Watkins contrasts with the Red Devils’ recent focus on younger talents; in contrast, the forward’s age aligns with Ruben Amorim’s desire for new players who are already at their peak.

United’s overall striker plans remain complex, with other targets like Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Hugo Ekitike facing various complications.

The report concludes by indicating that any striker arrival will likely depend on player departures.

What’s next for Man Utd?

Man Utd, who have no European exertions next season, return to pre-season next month, aiming to navigate playing just Premier League football with minimal fuss.
