Chima Anyaso exits YPP, citing gratitude and reflection. What’s next for Abia’s 2023 deputy governorship candidate? Read the full story.

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Abia State has suffered a major political blow following the resignation of its 2023 Deputy Governorship Candidate, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, who formally announced his exit from the party.
In a letter dated and circulated on Monday, Dr. Anyaso stated unequivocally that his resignation from the YPP takes immediate effect, ending a significant chapter in the party’s short but eventful political journey in Abia State.
“I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), effective immediately,” the letter began, sparking reactions among party faithful and political observers alike.
While the reasons for his sudden departure were not explicitly detailed, Dr. Chima Anyaso reflected deeply on his contributions and the sacrifices made to build the party’s presence in Abia politics.
“This decision did not come lightly, especially considering the time, the work and resources I have personally invested into the party… I remain deeply grateful for the opportunity to have contested as the Deputy Governorship Candidate of our great party in the 2023 general elections.”
Dr. Anyaso ran alongside YPP Governorship Candidate Enyinnaya Nwafor in what was widely seen as a youth-driven campaign aimed at political reform and empowerment in Abia State. Though the duo did not clinch victory, their movement was credited for raising political consciousness among Abia’s younger population.
“It was an honour to represent the ideals of YPP and to engage with the people of Abia State under its banner. We inspired a generation of young people to believe that true power rests with the people,” he declared.
In a tone that struck a balance between appreciation and finality, Dr. Anyaso praised the YPP leadership for their support and camaraderie but signalled his readiness for broader national or regional political engagement.
“I remain committed to the ideals of service, progress, and unity, and I look forward to opportunities to work with likeminded individuals for the betterment of our society.”
Political watchers are already speculating on Dr. Chima Anyaso’s next move, with unconfirmed whispers linking him to larger political platforms ahead of 2027. His resignation could signal a shifting alliance or the start of a new political realignment within Abia’s evolving landscape.
The YPP leadership is yet to issue an official response as of press time.
