How Policeman Was Killed By 10-Year-Old Son In Anambra
An officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Inspector Okolie Amechi, has died in a tragic case of accidental discharge after being shot by his 10-year-old son while on duty at Polaris Bank, Awka, Anambra State.
All Facts News reports that the incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. on Sunday at the bank’s premises located along Zik Avenue by Okeke Street.
Both victims were rushed to Amaku Specialist Teaching Hospital, Awka, where Inspector Amechi was confirmed dead on arrival. Emmanuel is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be responding.
The signal detailed that Dominion, unaware of the danger, had been playing with the rifle, which had been negligently cocked and left without the safety catch engaged.
The weapon involved, AK-47 Breach No. BA360691 was said to be loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition.
“The incident occurred while the officer was being visited by his three sons — Dominion (10), Wisdom (8), and Emmanuel (6),” the report added.
Following the incident, the rifle was recovered from the minor and secured, while the case has now been transferred to the Central Police Station (CPS), Awka, for formal investigation.
The internal report read in part, “Good evening, Sir. Incident Report – Accidental Discharge – 15/06/2026.
Regret to inform you that on the above date, at about 9:40 p.m., Inspector Okolie Amechi (AP/No. 262498), who was on duty at Polaris Bank… was fatally shot by his 10-year-old son, Dominion Vincent. The weapon had been cocked and left without the safety.”
