Rivers State in Turmoil: Fubara Invites Lawmakers for High-Stakes Meeting | SEE DETAILS

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has summoned Assembly members for a crucial meeting at Government House following the Supreme Court judgment. Key issues on the agenda include the 2025 budget presentation, Assembly remuneration, and venue concerns. Will this dialogue end the political standoff?

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has extended an invitation to members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for a crucial meeting at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on Monday, March 10, at 10:00 AM. The meeting, which comes in the wake of a Supreme Court judgment, is expected to address critical governance issues and ongoing tensions between the executive and legislative arms of the state.

The invitation was conveyed through a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, on Sunday. The letter, addressed to the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, indicates that the meeting will focus on several key issues, including the provision of a suitable venue for the Assembly’s sittings, the settlement of all outstanding remuneration and allowances for Assembly members, the presentation of the 2025 budget, and other pressing matters concerning the development of the state.

Governor Fubara, in his communication, underscored the importance of unity and cooperation, stating that the meeting would serve as a platform to “chart the way forward in the interest of the good people of Rivers State.” The move is seen as an attempt to ease the ongoing political crisis in the state following the Supreme Court’s verdict.

The call for dialogue follows heightened tensions between the governor and the Assembly, which had recently issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Fubara to present the 2025 budget after the Supreme Court judgment did not rule in his favor. Observers believe that the outcome of this meeting could significantly impact the political stability of Rivers State and determine the next course of action for both the executive and legislative arms of government.
