The Nigerian Senate is embroiled in controversy as Akpabio denies sexual harassment allegations by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The petition has been referred for investigation, but will the Senate act or protect its leader? Read the full details.

The Nigerian Senate has been plunged deeper into controversy as Senate President Godswill Akpabio finally broke his silence over the shocking sexual harassment allegations leveled against him by Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Reacting to the allegations during Wednesday’s plenary session after a week’s recess, Akpabio vehemently denied any wrongdoing, insisting that he has never harassed any woman.

“At no time did I ever harass any woman,” Akpabio stated, addressing his colleagues in the Red Chamber. “I was raised very well by my late single mother, and I have always upheld respect for women. In fact, I was once awarded the most gender-friendly governor in Nigeria.”

But just as Akpabio sought to clear his name, the atmosphere in the chamber grew tense as Akpoti-Uduaghan wasted no time in standing her ground. She invoked Order 40, formally submitting a petition against the Senate President, accusing him of sexual harassment and abuse of office.

The petition, now a matter of official Senate record, was subsequently referred to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct for review. The committee has been directed to investigate the matter “as soon as practicable,” though questions remain over whether the Senate will handle the case transparently or attempt to shield its embattled leader.

Meanwhile, public outrage continues to grow, with many Nigerians demanding an independent probe to ensure justice is served. Protests in Abuja calling for Akpabio’s resignation have intensified, fueling debates about abuse of power within Nigeria’s political class.

Will the Senate Investigate or Sweep It Under the Rug?

With tensions at an all-time high, Nigerians are watching closely to see whether this case will set a new precedent or become another high-profile controversy buried under political influence.

📌 What do you think? Should Akpabio step down pending investigation? Drop your comments!
