Governor Siminalayi Fubara defends Peter Odili against criticisms from Nyesom Wike, emphasizing his role as the face of Rivers politics. He pledges educational reforms and good governance amid ongoing political tensions.

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has delivered a sharp rebuke to detractors, including Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), by affirming the central role of Dr. Peter Odili, former governor of the state, in Rivers politics.

Fubara made this declaration during a New Year banquet in Port Harcourt, where he described Odili as the “beginning and end of politics” in Rivers State, emphasizing his unparalleled contributions to the state’s development.

This statement comes in the wake of a public spat between Odili and Wike. Odili had earlier commended Fubara for resisting attempts to turn Rivers into a “private estate,” a remark that drew criticism from Wike, who accused Odili of diminishing his reputation.

“This Dr. Odili is the right face and right image of our state. These are the frontiers of Rivers State politics.”

The governor questioned the credibility of his detractors, challenging them to present any significant political figure on their side who could rival Odili’s stature.

Fubara reassured citizens that his administration remains focused on delivering good governance, particularly in education.

“Our primary schools are shadows of themselves. Education is the only instrument that can help our youths avoid criminality and crime,” he said, pledging to revamp the sector.

He also expressed gratitude to key political leaders, including Sir Celestine Omehia, Sen. John Azuta Mbata, and Prince Uche Secondus, for their unwavering support.

Fubara underscored his resolve to maintain peace and stability, stating:

“We are not bothered about what they (opposition) will come with. God will always have a way to save us from them.”
