Revealed: What Chief of Army Staff Olufemi Oluyede Told Tinubu About Nigeria’s Security

In a decisive move to address Nigeria’s security challenges, the new Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has revealed details of his commitment to tackle insecurity and eradicate the Lakurawa terrorist group. Speaking to journalists after a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, Oluyede outlined his vision for a safer and more secure Nigeria.

“It’s related to my appointment,” Olufemi Oluyede began. “I am here to reassure Mr. President that I will do my best to make Nigeria better in terms of security. And I’m going to explore doing this in maybe a different way. I’ll get results that will make Nigeria better. That’s my major aim of coming. And to seek his support, which he’s been doing over the years.”

Oluyede emphasized his intent to approach security challenges with innovative strategies to achieve tangible results. He also shared insights from his recent visits to military formations in the Northwest and Northeast, regions heavily impacted by insurgency and banditry.

“I was there to speak with my officers and soldiers and to make them realize the need to bring all these forms of insecurity to an end,” he stated. “I made it clear that I expect better results going forward.”

Oluyede assured Nigerians that efforts to eliminate the Lakurawa terrorist group are intensifying. The group, known for exploiting Nigeria’s porous borders, often retreats to Niger Republic after attacks. However, the new COAS highlighted a breakthrough in cooperation with Niger, saying, “We are hitting them hard on the Nigerian side. What usually happens is that they flee to Niger Republic. Now that Niger is coming on board, very soon, Lakurawa will be a thing of the past.”

Olufemi Oluyede commended President Tinubu’s unwavering support for the military, expressing confidence that his administration’s backing would be pivotal in achieving security objectives.

With a clear vision and determined leadership, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede has set the tone for a renewed fight against insecurity in Nigeria. His commitment to innovative strategies, cross-border collaboration, and intensified military operations marks a hopeful turning point for the nation.
