Abia State Government will start paying the new national minimum wage of N70,000 to its workforce this October. This was confirmed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, after this week’s Executive Council meeting led by Governor Alex Otti. The government has also announced the construction and reconstruction of nine new road projects across the state.
In a significant move aimed at improving the welfare of its workforce, the Abia State Government has announced that civil servants will begin receiving the newly approved N70,000 national minimum wage starting this October. This was confirmed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a press briefing following the week’s Executive Council meeting, which was presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu emphasized that the state government is fully committed to implementing the minimum wage, which is in line with Governor Otti’s pledge to prioritize workers’ welfare.
“Except for any unforeseen circumstances, the state government will begin paying the new minimum wage within this month of October. Governor Otti is committed to the welfare of Abia workers, and everything is on track to ensure that civil servants start receiving the N70,000 minimum wage in the coming days,” Kanu stated.
The Commissioner also disclosed that, alongside the wage increment, the state government has approved nine new road projects that will span across the three senatorial zones of Abia State. Out of these, six roads are earmarked for construction, while three will undergo reconstruction. This marks another step in Governor Otti’s broader efforts to rebuild critical infrastructure in the state.
These projects are part of a larger commitment by the current administration to ensure that Abia State’s development continues on a steady path. Governor Otti’s administration has made it clear that both workers’ welfare and infrastructure development are at the forefront of its agenda.
The announcement has been met with optimism by civil servants across the state, who have long anticipated the implementation of the new wage structure. This development comes as Governor Otti continues to demonstrate his focus on improving the living standards of public sector workers, which remains one of the key pillars of his administration.
Prince Okey Kanu called on all Abia civil servants to remain dedicated to their duties as the government works toward enhancing their working conditions and providing necessary amenities across the state.
