Former Taraba Governor Darius Ishaku has been arrested by the EFCC over allegations of financial mismanagement and fraud totaling N27 billion. Sources reveal that the EFCC has filed 15 charges against him, with evidence pointing to severe breaches of public trust.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended former Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku, over allegations of financial mismanagement involving a staggering sum of N27 billion. The former governor was arrested at his Abuja residence in the early hours of Friday and remains in the custody of the anti-graft agency.
Sources within the EFCC confirmed that the arrest followed months of covert investigation into Ishaku’s financial activities during his tenure as governor. “We have been investigating him since he left office, and we’ve uncovered significant financial malfeasance,” a source within the agency revealed.
The EFCC is set to file a minimum of 15 charges against Darius Ishaku, with arraignment in court expected soon. According to reports, evidence implicating the former governor has been compiled, pointing to serious breaches of public trust and financial corruption.
Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the EFCC, confirmed the arrest but refrained from providing further details, stating that the investigation is ongoing. The arrest comes amidst heightened scrutiny of several former state governors, including former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, who is also under investigation for allegedly embezzling N80.2 billion.
Darius Ishaku’s arrest underscores the EFCC’s intensified efforts to crack down on financial crimes, particularly those involving public officials accused of misappropriating state funds during their time in office.
