FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State: Wike Explains Why He Won’t Reconcile with Governor Fubara in Rivers Crisis
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the FCT, has firmly ruled out any reconciliation with Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara. Citing a focus on his duties in the FCT, Wike declares there’s no going back on his decision, despite the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ruled out any possibility of reconciliation with Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, declaring that there is no going back on his decision. The statement was made during a media parley marking Wike’s one year in office as FCT Minister.

The rift between Wike and Fubara, which began shortly after Fubara assumed office, has escalated into a full-blown political crisis in Rivers State. The conflict has even led to factions within the state House of Assembly. Despite interventions by President Bola Tinubu and other political stakeholders, the crisis remains unresolved.

Wike, known for his outspoken nature, made it clear that his focus is now on delivering the mandate given to him by President Tinubu and that he has no intention of supporting Fubara any longer. “In good conscience, I fought for Fubara to become governor without any regrets. Now, if he doesn’t want to be part of the family, that’s his choice,” Wike stated.

Drawing parallels with other political relationships, Wike referenced how former Governor Rauf Aregbesola distanced himself from President Tinubu, suggesting that political alliances can change. “What support? Have I come out of the one I did? Some people don’t play politics of integrity, but I do,” he added, emphasizing that his decision is final.

Wike’s refusal to reconcile with Fubara signals a deepening of the political divide in Rivers State, further complicating efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis.
