Nigerian Woman in UK Accuses Alat by Wema of Blocking Access to N373,000 for Over 8 Months

A Nigerian based in the United Kingdom has accused Alat by Wema of deliberately frustrating her by refusing to allow her access to her N373,000 for more than eight months.

The woman, who prefers to be anonymous, told The Press that she kept writing to the bank, asking them to help her update her National Identification Number (NIN) to withdraw her funds but it had yielded no success.

She said that her frustration started in October, when she wanted to withdraw some funds but could not do so because her account was debit-restricted. The solution was for her to update her NIN, which she has tried to resolve without success.

Her funds is still stuck despite the bank assuring her the issue has been fixed

She said she had sent several emails since October 2023, requesting Alat by Wema to allow her to update her NIN, but to no avail. According to her, Alat by Wema would assure her that she could update her details and then withdraw but whenever she tried it, the issue persisted.

“I have been unable to access my account due to a debit restriction. I have called my bank many times to sort it out, but their app is not allowing me to update my NIN. I need my money back,”.

FIJ emailed the bank for comments, but they have not responded.
