The absence of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu who is the incumbent Senator representing Abia North during a debate organized by the Abia State Election Debate Team on Friday for senatorial candidates of his zone has been criticized.
The debate which took place in the studios of Rapid 96.5 FM in Umuahia in partnership with other Radio Stations and Online TV Platforms across the state had in attendance, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Osita Offor of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), and Barrister Carol Okoroafor (APGA).
The debate was aimed at exposing the various senatorial candidates to the people they seek to represent and availing them the opportunity to sell their candidacy to the people.
Reacting to the absence of the incumbent Senator during the debate, the ADC candidate, faulted the decision of the Chief Whip of the Senate to stay out of the debate saying that he (Orji Uzor Kalu) has demonstrated that he is bigger than the people he is representing and only answerable to himself.
“I consider it that the gentleman has something more important to his person than the debate that he decided to attend to” His decision not to attend this debate has shown that he see himself as established and untouchable”
“His kind of people come to the people and talk to them when they want to and not when the people need them to talk to them”
Aligning himself with thoughts of ADC candidate, Senator Ohuabunwa faulted the decision of Kalu not to shown up as at that time for the debate even when he was being assuaged and convinced by one of the anchor (Tici Barah) of the possibility of the Senator to still come for the debate.
“You cannot tell us to still be expecting someone to come to an interview you invited us by 9am at past 10am” I do not think you are expecting us to do the right thing, if a Senator can turn down an invitation such as this” He said.
