Candidates of various political parties in Abia state were on a hot seat at the day-2 of the Ikwuano Socio-Economic Summit 2023, as the electorates whom they are seeking for their mandates, grilled them on their vision and agenda for the people if elected into office.
The Summit which continued on Wednesday at Ikwuano Local Government Council, Isiala Oboro in Ikwuano local government area of Abia state, had the presence of governorship, Senatorial, House of representatives and state house of Assembly candidates who were also engaged by the people in a question-and-answer segment.


The candidates relayed their personal antecedents, agenda for the people while seeking their votes.
Earlier in his address, the chairman of the event, Chief Sam Eke PhD, charged the people to consider the numerous challenges facing the people of Ikwuano ranging from bad road networks, unemployment, lack of development among others before chosing their preferred candidates. He noted that Ikwuano which contributes largely to the economic strength of the state deserves a better position than it currently occupies.
Chief Sam Eke PhD urged the people not to vote for candidates who have no proven scorecards rather individuals with integrity and the capability to meet the needs of the people.
In his words:
” Consider individual Candidates on their individual merits. Consider the past records of the Candidates; what have they been able to do on personal capacity?
“You cannot give what you don’t have. Our people have been taken aback for so long and we want to move forward with people, leaders that will identify with us at any time.
“We want to have leaders that will realize that they are there to render services to the people”.
Candidates at the event include; Professor Greg Ibe, the APGA Governorship Candidate (represented); Professor Uche Ikonne (represented); Colonel Austin Akobundu, PDP candidate for Abia Central; Obi Aguocha, and Right Honourable Chinedum Orji (represented) Labour Party and PDP candidates for Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency; Chukwu Wachukwu, SDP Candidate for Abia Central; Obinna Nwosu, ADC candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency; Philip Daniel, SDP Candidate for Ikwuano state constituency, among others.
