Arsenal Consider January Move For Spain’s Striker

Arsenal will attempt to entice Barcelona forward Ferran Torres to the Emirates in the January transfer window as Mikel Arteta targets a replacement for Gabriel Jesus.

The winter transfer market could prove to be second time lucky for Arteta after the Gunners boss originally tried to bring the former Manchester City striker to the club before Torres sealed his then dream move to Barcelona.

Fichajes.net reported that the dream appears to have turned to a nightmare with the 22 year old now set for a switch back to England just twelve months after joining Barcelona.

The Catalan club are prepared to let Torres leave just a year into his five year deal with head coach Xavi so far unimpressed with the club’s return on their investment of £46.3 million.

Several European teams are monitoring the situation with Serie A champions AC Milan and Arsenal’s London rivals Tottenham also keen on securing Torres signature.

Torres is currently enjoying a period of rest following Spain’s World Cup exit against semi-finalists Morocco, having made four appearances and scored two goals for the national team.

Torres would be a significant feat for Arsenal after star striker Jesus underwent surgery on a knee injury he sustained while playing for Brazil at the World Cup.

Arteta previously worked alongside Torres during his time as assistant coach under Pep Guardiola at City and will be hoping his close ties with his fellow countryman will aid Arsenal in their hunt.

The Arsenal manager recently hinted the club will see what they can do to ‘be stronger’ as they attempt to clinch the Premier League title.

“I feel my squad is really good and unfortunately we’ve had injuries, but we will see what we can do to be stronger,” said Arteta.

“We have a lot of players, we have a lot of academy players. We have the players who can give us the performances and the consistency to maintain or improve from where we are.”
