The World Day Against Child Labour for 2022 which was held on Thursday in Abuja had in attendance notable persons in the society, one of which was the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.

During the event, while speaking, Ngige mentioned that the Federal Government was investing billions in social protection to fight poverty in Nigeria describing it as triple vaccination against poverty.

The minister had said that the government was taking care of citizens despite the country’s dwindling revenue, stating that good policies would aid in reversing the trend of poverty fueling child labour.

Quoted by NAN he said “Children are endangered. That is why the government, the ILO and other stakeholders have been working assiduously.”

Ngige mentioned also that the parties were trying to put an end child to labour in line with SDG 8.7, and also seeing to it that young workers were protected and worked in safe working environments.

He explained that the National Children School Feeding Programme (NCSFP) targets an increase in children’s school enrollment.

Ngige said the policy ensures children are fed with nutritious food, while farmers, traders and cooks make money.

The minister also informed that poverty is being tackled through the conditional cash transfer programme, Trader Moni and N-power.
