The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has said that the secondary school certificate claimed to be owned by the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom, Pastor Umo Eno does not exist in their records.
Recall that TheMail Newspaper had exclusively reported on Saturday that a group had written WAEC in the first quarter of this year, seeking confirmation as per the authenticity of the WAEC certificate paraded by Eno who is the immediate past Commissioner for Lands in Akwa Ibom.
In its response dated 8th April, 2022 and addressed to the president of the group, Association of Advancement in Nigeria (AADN), the examination body said they “cannot certify what we did not issue”.
“This is to notify you that the certificate No. PO 275878A for candidate No. 15725119 of December 1983 submitted for certification by you does not exist in our records, hence we cannot certify what we did not issue”, reads the letter signed by T. A. Adomola, the Head of Exams and Records of WAEC Zonal Office in Ikeja, Lagos.
Eno, the preferred candidate of the incumbent governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has been dragged to court by Mr. Akan Okon, a co-contestant in the May 25, 2022 PDP governorship candidate.
Okon who is also the immediate past Commissioner for Economic Development is accusing Eno of parading fake WAEC certificates, falsified Permanent Voter’s Card and inconsistency in date of birth.
Eno through his counsels filed his defence on July 6, 2022.
Part of what he filed in court to aid his case is a Confirmation of Result for the 1981 and 1983 certificates obtained from WAEC National Headquarters, Yaba.
TheMail Newspaper had on Saturday reported that there were noticeable discrepancies when the certificates and confirmation of results are placed side-by-side.
The case which came up in Federal High Court, Uyo on June 21, 2022 was adjourned to Monday July 18.
