NIN-SIM: Service Providers Heed FG’s Order, Blocks Unlinked Lines | READ IN FULL

Following a directive from the Federal Government of Nigeria for Telecom service providers to block users of lines yet to obey the NIN-SIM linkage, many Nigerians have been locked out.

AFNEWS had reported that the FG, through the Minister for Communication and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, ordered all Telecos operators to block all unlinked lines from Monday, April 4, 2022 after series of deadlines had elapsed. READ HERE

Affected subscribers can only receive calls but cannot make an outgoing call with their lines.

The Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), in a statement, affirmed that it has complied with the Federal Government’s order.

ALTON noted that affected subscribers are those yet to link their National Identification Number (NIN) with their Subscriber Identification Module (SIM).

A statement released by the Chairman, ALTON Gbenga Adebayo, and Head of Operations, Gbolahan Awonuga, on Tuesday revealed that operators received a formal directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The Association maintained that yet to be linked lines will remain blocked.

“Our members are committed to complying with the instructions and call on telecommunication subscribers who have not obtained or linked their NIN to their SIMs, to do so at any of the designated centres”, the statement read in part.
