AFCON 2021: President Macky Sall Declares Public Holiday In Senegal | READ DETAILS
Senegal’s President, Macky Sall has declared Monday, January 7, 2022, a public holiday to celebrate the nation’s historical first ever AFCON victory.
The national team, Lions of Teraga in a Sadio Mane led victorious outing defeated the Pharaohs of Egypt in a 4-2 penalty shoot-out on Sunday, 6th of February at the 33rd AFCON festival.
The Politician declared the holiday on public television, RTS – Radiodiffusion Télévision Sénégalaise, adding it was a deserved day off for the national team and nation alike.
The nation’s capital city, Dakar was agog, as tens of thousands of excited fans flooded the city late in the late hours of Sunday night, waving national flags, dancing and firing fireworks into the air in jubilation.
Sall who has cancelled a due visit to Comoros will be decorating the Lions in high fashion on Tuesday, 8th January, 2022 at Dakar.
The Lions are celebrating their first win after two defeats in 2002 and 2019.
