Buhari Writes Senate, Seeks Confirmation Of NERC, NDIC Nominees

President Muhammadu Buhari has written three letters to the Senate to seek the confirmation of nominees for three government agencies.

All Facts News reports that the three agencies include Nigeria Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC), Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDRA) and the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).

Senate President Ahmad Lawan read the letters on the floor of the Red Chamber during Wednesday’s plenary and stressed that the President cited laws that supported his decision to make the appointments.

In a letter to the Senate, Buhari asked the Senate to confirm Francis Alabo Ogali, Mustapha Lawade, Monsuru Kulia, Bashiru Sadiq and Zainab Gobir as Executive Directors of NMDRA.

Another letter read by Lawan said the President requested the confirmation of Chidi Ike (South East), Yusuf Ali (North Central), Nathan Shetty North East), and Dafe Apeneye (South South) as NERC Commissioners.

Also, the President asked the Red chamber to approve the appointment of Emili Chidinma Osuji as the Executive Director of the NDIC.

However, the Senate President said that the nominees will be screened by the relevant committees before they are confirmed.

Lawan added that the nominations will be referred to the relevant committees of the upper legislative chamber on the next legislative day.
