The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu has said that the Intra city train passengers will not have to break the bank before they can afford a ride.

The governor who featured on a Channels TV programme, ‘Sunrise Daily’ on Friday, January 28, 2022, said train fare will be between the normal rate of N200 and N300 per journey.

Sanwo Olu, noted that the fare will be determined from the pickup point to the destination, however, it will exceed the normal amount paid on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines.

He assured Lagosians that the Red and Blue Lines Rail projects will be completed by the end of 2022 and by the first quarter in 2023, the lines will start full operation.

“We believe that the cost will come down significantly for the citizens (residents),” said the governor. It is not going to be in thousands, … certainly, it is nothing close to that. So, you will still be in your regular N200, N300 per journey and that is what we are looking at.”

“I do not think that they will be breaking their banks. I assure you it will be very affordable and accessible … the fare structure will be (determined by) where you are joining and hopping off, but typically it will not be more than what you are running on your regular BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) lines today.

“For it to be accessible, affordability is really critical for people to want to make it a better option. Yes, you can say now it is quicker, instead of you staying one hour on the road, it is going to take you 20 minutes, 25 minutes” Sanwo Olu said.

The governor had on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 inspected the newly acquired Talgo Intra-City Ten Coach metropolitan trains, for the Red Line Metro project in Lagos.
