A High Court sitting in Abia State, has ordered the Federal Government of Nigeria to apologize to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Justice Ben Anya of the High court while passing judgement on the Fundamental right suit filed in August, 2021 by special counsel to Kanu/IPOB, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor on Wednesday, January 19, 2021, affirmed that the Federal Government violated Kanu’s rights.

According to Ejimakor, the court ordered the FG to pay one billion naira compensation to Kanu and also issue a letter of apology to him.

Kanu’s counsel had instituted a N50Billion naira suit requesting for the court to declare illegal, the military invasion of Kanu’s country home in 2017, declare as illegal and unlawful the repatriation of his client from Kenya to Nigeria, to order the FG to stop further charges against Kanu, among others.

Giving an update on the court siting, Barrister Ejimakor tweeted;

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wins as Abia High Court rules that Federal Government violated his fundamental rights, orders Federal Government to pay N1b to him and issue a letter of apology to him.

“Most importantly, the court recommended political solution to the #Biafran agitation.”
