The Super Eagles of Nigeria have triumphed over the Pharaohs of Egypt with a 1-0 victory in their group stage face off at the ongoing 33rd Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday, the 11th of January 2022 in Garoua, Cameroon.

The nine- time AFCON champions who are comfortably on top of Group D with the victory, broke the Egyptian side’s record of an unbeaten streak in their last 16 group matches at the AFCON.

Prior to their recent loss, Egypt’s last defeat in the group phase dated back to the 2004 tournament when they lost 2-1 against Algeria.

The 30th minute goal from Leceister City’s forward, Kelechi Iheanacho following a brilliant assist from Taiwo Awoniyi put the team ahead. The ordeal began for the Pharaohs when Al Alhy’s Akram Elhagrassi fell to an injury in his lower limbs. The Super Eagles squad took the advantage with a productive left flank to churn out a dominating win.
