The Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume, has revealed why the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), terrorist group killed Brigadier General Dzarma Zirkushu.

ISWAP terrorists on Saturday, November 13, engaged troops of the Nigerian Army in a fierce gun duel at Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Ndume, who is also the member representing Borno South Senator, said the terrorists were on a revenge mission as the Nigerian military had killed a number of their members including 4 of their leaders in various raids.

Ndume who spoke to newsmen on Sunday, said the terrorist saw the late Zirkusu as an obstacle to their operations and rammed a bomb laden car into the General’s vehicle.

“They know that the general was the major obstacle to their operation. They laid an ambush and rammed a bomb-laden car into his vehicle.

“It was a revenge mission. The army has been taking out key ISWAP commanders and they have their revenge.

“Last week, for instance, they abducted relatives of the Emir of Askira. They also abducted some passengers along that road. If the Army sustains the temple, we will win this insurgency.”

“They (ISWAP terrorists) are also regrouping around Borno North, that’s Lake Chad axis, planning to launch a fresh attack. The military is aware and the Air Force is conducting surveillance in the area right now” Ndume said.
