The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has revealed why data subscriptions of telecom subscribers get exhausted almost immediately after subscribing.

The NCC is the independent regulatory authority for the telecommunications industry in Nigeria.

The Commission revealed this amidst several complaints from subscribers that their data plans from various network providers do not last as expected.

According to the regulatory body, some of the activities that causes quick exhaustion of data include; online gaming, downloading videos and streaming online, ‘always on’ social media feeds and notifications, emails with large file attachments, data sent through Virtual Private Network (VPN), Software package updates, among others.

The Commission wrote;

“ACTIVITIES THAT MAY LEAD TO DATA DEPLETION:

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) wishes to draw the attention of Consumers to online activities that lead to high data consumption. For more information visit www.ncc.gov.ng for FAQs on data depletion.”
