Against the backdrop of the global celebration of International Labour Day, the Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Prof Gregory Ibe has made a case for enlargement of the earning ability of the worker through human capacity development.

In a goodwill message to workers, Prof Ibe, while praising the enterprising spirit of the workforce, enjoined workers to activate multiple revenue sources by acquiring more skills. According to Prof Ibe, who is a renowned professor of entrepreneural science, “workers must realise that global economy is currently being driven by skills and not certificates. So while advocating for certificate acquisition, I also encourage diversification into such skill areas as agribusiness, ICT and internet marketing.”

Part of the message reads thus; While recognizing the role of the workerforce as lifewire and backbone of the economy, I enjoin workers to add value to themselves by enlarging their skill set, and thereby enlarge their çhances of attracting more income.”

Continuing the message said,” Against the backdrop of crippling global economic challenges, I invite workers to explore available opportunities in Agribusiness, ICT and internet marketing by acquiring skills that will position them for more income. As the largest employer of labour in the private sector in Abia state, we will continue to partner government in providing more opportunities for capacity building among the workforce, through specially designed training workshops and workers industrial experience programmes duly certified by our institution and relevant professional bodies.”

The message concluded by wishing workers a resounding labour day celebration.
